UFO Believers Seek Info — CNN Video

April 21st, 2009 No comments

X-Conference 2009′s Steve Bassett and astronaut Dr. Edgar Mitchell call on the Obama White House to release the UFO files.

Still with the cheese, mostly glib, and has bad audio, but here you go…

CNN Catches UFO on Camera During Inauguration?

January 22nd, 2009 1 comment

Insect or UFO…?

I am rather skeptical of this since there are claims that CNN have removed the footage of an object buzzing past from right to left — about 8 seconds in — when this is clearly not the case…

More analysis can be found here.

That said, insects in 10 degree weather…?

Miles O’Brien answers questions about CNN firing and missing Podesta segment

January 8th, 2009 No comments

In a recent email exchange between Angelia Joiner and Miles O’Brien we are now told that there was no link between his UFO shows and subsequent comments about John Podesta on CNN.

Angelia released the following email content in yesterday’s ‘Richard Syrett Show‘…

I was fired for reasons completely separate from my UFO series – although I can honestly say one senior manager at CNN was not in favor of me doing the series in the first place (“not our ‘brand’,” said she). But in the end it was more about the Greenbacks than the Grays. As for the portion of the piece that dealt with Podesta: it is CNN.com custom to post the taped portion of stories – not the live introductions and tags by reporters as they interact with anchors. The Podesta content was contained in a live tag – and thus was not included in the online post. So while it makes for an interesting pair of coincidences, there really is nothing Grassy Knoll here…

Fans of Miles O’Brien will be glad to read this entry on his Twitter account…

About to ink a deal to do a documentary for PBS. Stay tuned.

And I personally would like to wish Miles the very best of luck in all his future endeavours :)

Larry King Live UFO Show Tomorrow (Wednesday, 31 December)

December 30th, 2008 1 comment

I’m not entirely sure if this is a repeat of a previous Larry King Live show about UFOs, but I’m sure I’ll be watching just in case. Here’s the promo blurb from the website…

Have UFOs disabled U.S. defense systems? Wait until you hear what three former Air Force officers have to say. You won’t believe the answer! The testimonies that could turn you into a believer.

The Miles O’Brien Comments Cut from the Presentation CNN has Online

December 23rd, 2008 No comments

Could these comments by Miles O’Brien have lost him his job? Here follows the part of the ‘In Search of Aliens’ show that got removed in the final version available on CNN’s website. Kieran Chetry’s final words are sadly prophetic.

Science Groups Protest CNN Cuts

December 23rd, 2008 No comments

CASW, NASW, SEJ, and WFSJ issue first-ever joint letter…

Dear Mr. Walton and Mr. Klein,

We are writing on behalf of several national and international science journalism organizations to express our strong concern about CNN’s shortsighted decision to cut its science, technology and environment unit in one fell swoop. In wielding this ax, your network has lost an experienced and highly regarded group of science journalists at a time when science coverage could not be more important in our national and international discourse.

The environment, energy technology, space exploration, and biotechnology are crucial ongoing stories that will have growing prominence as a new American president takes office and nations confront a wide range of science-based global issues. As the impacts of climate change intensify, shows like “Planet in Peril” cannot make up for informed daily coverage of this important issue and other science topics in the public eye. As with political and policy reporting, it is important that the underlying science be covered by journalists with the skills and knowledge to sort out competing claims.

Concerned as we are about the dismissal of our colleagues—including the award-winning science reporter Miles O’Brien in New York; Peter Dykstra, head of CNN’s science unit in Atlanta; and five other science producers there—this letter is not about individual journalists. Rather, the wholesale dismantling of the science unit calls into question CNN’s commitment to bringing the most informative science news to the general public, including the science-minded younger audience. If CNN wants to be truly international, it will be at odds with the trend toward increased science coverage in many parts of the world.

It is difficult for us to imagine why CNN, which has earned a justifiably strong reputation for its science journalism in the past, has opted to widen the gap in science coverage rather than strive to fill it. We would hope that you would reconsider your decision and reassemble a cadre of well-trained science journalists that would enable you to expand unfolding science news and in-depth coverage, not shrink it.

Your action is an unfortunate symbol of recent widespread cutbacks in specialty science journalism. Our groups will continue to push for more science coverage by the major media and to do our part to promote the highest possible professional standards for communicating complex science-based issues across the spectrum. We plan to publicize this letter as widely as possible to encourage further discussion of the future of science journalism. Thanks for your attention.

Miles O’Brien and Six Producers ‘Let Go’ from CNN after UFO Specials

December 22nd, 2008 No comments
Miles O'Brien Sometimes those big stories really do slip by unnoticed, don’t they? I found this by chance only today, 19 days after the event itself.

Rumors are afoot that Miles O’Brien may have been the victim of something other than simple ‘restructuring’. Consider, if you will, this quote from O’Brien’s entry on Wikipedia:

It was announced on December 3, 2008 that O’Brien would be leaving CNN, along with 6 producers, as a result of the company disbanding most of its science and technology unit.

Innocuous, yes…?

Not so fast!

After some back and forth with Grant Cameron, we were given this info by Giuliano Marinkovic:

Here are some reference links with official release:
CNN Closes Space/Tech/Environmental Reporting Unit; Miles O’Brien Departs
Miles O’Brien To Leave CNN. Network Shutters Science, Space and Tech Unit

Also I think this was some kind of blog-diary of Obrien activities. I will check up that one later to see better. here is the link:
http://twitter.com/milesobrien

I know [of] some vague discussions about the possible UFO connection here:
http://forum.theparacast.com/the-ufo-forum-f8/cnn-fires-miles-obrien-and-science-team-t3113/
http://forum.theparacast.com/the-ufo-forum-f8/cnn-fires-miles-obrien-and-science-team-t3113/page2.html

There are some whispers about in the UFO community (Salla has also touched on that in the last Richard Syrett show – the last episode with him, Bassett and Greer)  but I haven’t heard nothing concrete yet only whispering.

Indeed, there certainly are references made to the UFO show on O’Brien’s Twitter Page. For example…

“In Search of Aliens” now history. Pushing to do one more story – combine the rest – and make an hour special for the holidays. Stay tuned!

And so much for Miles’ current job situation being the result of a mere ‘disbanding’…

Being unemployed is hard work. Never expected to be this busy. A good public firing can make the phone ring, that is for sure.

Don’t turn that dial, folks… this could be a bumpy ride!

Another Podesta / UFO Reference on CNN

December 2nd, 2008 No comments

Once again, on CNN’s American Morning, a reference to John Podesta’s point that the books should be opened on UFOs. Here is the relevant part of the transcript:

CHETRY: Well, a group of UFO enthusiasts want Barack Obama to open up the X-files they wrote requesting the new administration come clean about America’s contact with UFOs and hold congressional hearings, and they may actually have a guy on the inside for this one. John Podesta, the man leading Obama’s transition team once said it is time to open those books. Well, what a way to get into our special series that we’ve been bringing you “In Search of Aliens.” And, today, we’re talking to a woman who has made contact, her life’s mission. Space correspondent Miles O’Brien is here.
